As someone who is often in the role of facilitating group work, I am always looking for new ways to help people get to know each other fairly quickly and get their creative juice flowing. We have a name for these types of activities: Creative Juice Boxes. On episode 17 (above), released today, NibSqueak co-host Bree Sanchez and I talk about our favorite Creative Juice Boxes. Our friend Liz Ball is our guest on this episode and she makes one thing abundantly clear: these are not your typical icebreakers! Our Creative Juice Boxes are quick, fun, creative, and often visual in nature.
Rory’s Story Cubes are a great tool for sparking new connections and ideas. We facilitate Creative Juice Box activities using Story Cubes occasionally, and modify our instructions a bit each time to suit the objectives for each session. Hear in this episode how we frame story cube activities to get people thinking and talking about personal and organizational stories.
Bree talks about another Creative Juice Box we call Picture Cards. Picture cards can be made using found photos or DIY sketches, or you can buy and use Visual Explorer Post Cards produced by the Center for Creative Leadership.
We hope you’ll skip the ice breakers and try a Creative Juice Box next time you’re facilitating a group. If you do, we’d love to hear how it goes!
