Our client, a national insurance company, wanted to provide their product development team with the skills and tools to more effectively facilitate their meetings with business and technology teams. As UX designers, the team possessed a deep understanding of how users interact with systems, but were less comfortable playing a facilitative role or utilizing whiteboards and flip-charts to aid in capturing and sharing ideas. The goal was to help them visually capture and share ideas in real-time, thus providing visual frameworks for structuring their conversations and enhancing their listening skills.
Design and facilitate a customized, two-day, in-house workshop including:
- Overview of graphic facilitation and its value
- Development and practice of fundamental skills:
- Listening with intentionality
- Writing legibly for an audience
- Developing logical hierarchies and establishing visual connections
- Creating useful structures and frameworks for content
- Using icons to enhance understanding
- Real-time feedback and guidance
- Strategy around real-world application
- Increased ability of team to facilitate collaborative meetings
- Shift in team approach from “taking orders” to guiding discussion
- Introduction of visuals earlier on in ideation process
- More effective capture of meeting discussion and output
