TEDx
This year's TEDxBoston speakers gave us a wonderful vantage point into how the reality of machine learning and artificial intelligence is changing the world around us in ways that we see and ways that we don’t see. As in previous years, Collective Next provided speaker and event sponsorship in the form of speaker coaching and script writing, in-depth design/production of talk visuals, overall content curation, and graphic facilitation at the event.

Ways of Working
Imagine you have just come up with a bold, new idea for solving a complex issue in your organization or community. You believe your idea has legs, but wonder what unforeseen consequences will emerge for the myriad stakeholders involved. What devil will be found lurking in the details? What other partnerships or perspectives could make it stronger? In short, you want to know now all things about which you will one day say: I wish I had known that from the beginning.

We recently had an exciting opportunity to digitally scribe (or as we like to say "SuperScribe") in front of 1,400 people at Matthews Arena in Boston. The event was City Year’s Summer Academy, a unique chance for their entire team together three days of education, insipiration, and team building.

Insights
I recently returned from the International Forum of Visual Practitioners’ 22nd Annual Conference, where I had the opportunity to once again be a part of an immersive experience with other artists/visual practitioners. Taking this time out of my daily work has proven to be a source of inspiration and motivation. It’s a reminder to look up and look around- get out of the my day-to-day routines, and see what else is going on in the world with regards to this very special field of work - graphic facilitation/graphic recording.

Scribing and Graphic Facilitation Training Programs
See what Graphic Facilitation Boot Camp looks like in action! This year I’ve had more and more opportunities to do the work I love, graphic facilitation, and to teach others how to use visuals in their work. Every Graphic Facilitation Boot Camp I’ve led has brought with it some new and interesting challenges, and has also shown me that anyone can benefit.

Ways of Working
This summer I had the fine fortune to meet Katie Greenman, the Program Director at City Awake, at a work event. City Awake is the civic innovation lab for Greater Boston. They bring passionate individuals together to help solve some of Boston’s biggest challenges. As someone whose unofficial job title is “collaboration engineer,” I was deeply intrigued. Katie and I chatted, and pretty immediately saw opportunities for City Awake and Collective Next to join forces to help facilitate meaningful change in a city we all love.

Scribing and Graphic Facilitation Training Programs
Scribing is everywhere. Surely you’ve seen evidence of this over the last few years in commercials, on shopping bags and packaging, and even in business, where scribe-style videos have been very popular for the last 5+ years. So what is it about scribing that people find so appealing? Outside of the context of the business world, where you see examples of scribing unfolding in “real time” to either conversation or scripted stories, it exists as static images, too, used to fill spaces with a sense of whimsy and energy.

TEDx
TEDxBoston 2016 explored artificial intelligence and machine learning (AIML), a field of exciting, exponential growth. As curators, we sought to bring a greater understanding of how this technology works, how it’s changing our lives, and most importantly, the research being done to create these tools.
